Katowice Cyclotron – RADIOFARM 4.0

The largest project being carried out by Alteris for the production of radiopharmaceuticals in Poland.

Modern nuclear medicine begins with technology. It is precisely this advanced production infrastructure that enables the manufacture of radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals used every day in PET diagnostics and isotope therapies.

Alteris is carrying out the RADIOFARM 4.0 project in Katowice – a state-of-the-art production and clinical centre for the Voxel Group, designed to respond to the rapid development of nuclear medicine and the growing importance of theranostics in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, particularly oncological ones.

This investment is one of the most important projects for the development of nuclear medicine in Poland and addresses the growing demand for radiopharmaceuticals and the development of theranostics.

The cyclotron – the heart of radioisotope production

A cyclotron is one of the most advanced pieces of equipment used in nuclear medicine. It enables the production of radioisotopes with a short half-life, which are then used to produce radiopharmaceuticals for PET diagnostics and modern isotope therapies.

Due to the very short half-lives of many isotopes, production must take place on a continuous basis, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and logistics. The cyclotron is therefore the central element of the entire technological ecosystem, which encompasses synthesis laboratories, quality control and specialist technical infrastructure.

Engineering requiring the utmost precision

The construction of the cyclotron facility is one of the most demanding projects undertaken for the healthcare sector.

The project requires a combination of expertise in the design of specialist facilities, medical technology, process installations, radiation protection, HVAC systems, automation and laboratory infrastructure.

Thanks to the experience gained whilst carrying out projects for the nuclear medicine sector, Alteris manages projects covering the entire process – from concept and design, through implementation, to preparing the infrastructure for the start of production.

Infrastructure for the future of medicine

The rapid development of PET diagnostics, targeted therapies and theranostics is leading to a steady increase in demand for radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals. The production and clinical centre currently under construction in Katowice has been designed with a view to the further development of these technologies and to increasing domestic production capacity.
